Blotter: Bittersweet Drive Home Ransacked; Traffic Stop Reveals Marijuana

The police report for May 15-21.

The items below come from Northbrook Police Department reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Break-in on Bittersweet Drive

A resident of Bittersweet Drive reported that between 10 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. May 18 a basement window was smashed to gain entry. Afterward, the home was ransacked and several items, including two laptops, were reported stolen.

3 Suspended License Arrests

Georgina S. Asare, 54, of Evanston, was arrested May 16 at Sanders Road and Walters Avenue and charged with driving with a suspended license, driving without insurance and disobeying a traffic control device.

Steven M. Scholl, 51, of Northbrook, was arrested May 16 at Greenview Road and Mallard Drive and charged with driving with a suspended license and disobeying a stop sign.

Robert G. Botta, 55, of Northbrook, was stopped for a traffic violation May 19 along Willow Road. He was arrested and charged with improper lane usage and driving with a suspended license.   

Drug Possession Arrests

Danny J. Kennedy, 22, and Jessica S. Silets, 24, both of Northbrook, were in a vehicle that police stopped for a traffic violation. They were subsequently arrested and charged with possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Stolen Wallets

On May 15, a shopper at Nordstrom Rack forgot a black clutch wallet in the restroom and returned 15 minutes later only to find the wallet missing. The wallet, valued at $50, contained $350 in cash, credit cards and identifications.

A wallet was stolen from a car parked in the 2000 block of Milton Avenue on May 19.

Electronic Gear Taken

An $250 iPod was reported stolen from a purse at Glenbrook North High School on May 18.

A $900 laptop was taken May 19 from Lake Cook Nursing Center on Skokie Boulevard.

Scratch Marks on Cars 

A man reported May 18 that a sharp instrument was used to scratch the trunk lid of his car that was parked at Dundee and Pfingsten roads.

A woman told police May 19 that she found an 8-inch scratch in the driver’s side door of her car that was parked at Northbrook Court.

Mailbox Damaged

A resident of Old Mill Road reported that her mailbox was damaged between May 14 and 15. An officer investigating the scene determined that a vehicle traveling westbound likely struck the mailbox. The loss was estimated at $200.

Damage at Shopping Center

A maintenance employee for one of the shopping centers on Cherry Lane reported that youths playing hockey had damaged the building May 21 with strikes by the puck.
