Blotter: Burglary on Heritage Drive, 'Shots Fired' Turn Out To Be Fireworks

The police report for April 18-24.

The items below come from Northbrook Police Department reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

Christel M. Valentine, 46, of Northbrook, was stopped for a traffic violation Thursday, April 21, at Cedar and Ash lanes, arrested and charged with three counts of failing to signal and two counts of driving under the influence, police reported.

Yuriy Vikentyev, 31, of Chicago, was stopped for a traffic violation at Dundee Road and Colonnades Drive Saturday, April 23, arrested and charged with making an improper turn at an intersection, two counts of improper lane usage, violating the median and two counts of driving under the influence, according to police.

WARRANT ARREST

Timothy Gunther, 35, of Lake in the Hills, was arrested on a warrant on Lake Cook Road Friday, April 22, according to police.

BURGLARY ON HERITAGE DRIVE

A burglar entered a home on Heritage Drive sometime between Saturday, April 16, and Monday, April 18, and stole a Mac desktop computer, Onkyo receiver and Nintendo Wii, according to police. An officer noticed a 1-inch pry mark on the door and muddy footprints throughout the house.

BURGLARY ON MELVIN DRIVE

An employer on Melvin Drive reported that an employee found the back door of her business open and the lock damaged on Wednesday, April 20. No items were found to be missing, but an officer noticed a pry mark on the door and found the lock cylinder on the ground, according to police.  

DRUG POSSESSION

Terrence L. Woods, 34, of Zion, was stopped for a traffic violation Tuesday, April 19, at Western Avenue and Crabtree Lane, according to police. An officer discovered that he had marijuana, arrested him and charged him with possession of cannabis, police reported. 

Christina Lyn Russo, 30, of Northbrook, was arrested on Castilian Circle Friday, April 22, and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, according to police. After searching her purse, officers found two hypodermic needles, two spoons and two plastic tubes, police reported, and one of those needles was partially filled with a substance believed to be heroin.

John Mulhall, 19, of Northbrook, was arrested at Sunnyside Circle and Woodlawn Road Saturday, April 23, and charged with possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to police. Officers were tipped off to the arrest when an individual called police to report that there was an unknown vehicle parked in a driveway and that the occupant was “smoking dope.”

SUSPENDED LICENSE

Gerardo Leon-Martinez, 26, of Arlington Heights, was arrested Thursday, April 21, at Chestnut and Greenbriar lanes and charged with violating a ‘One Way’ or ‘Do Not Enter’ sign, driving without an issued license and driving with a suspended license, according to police.

CREDIT CARD FRAUD

A resident of Dundee Road told police on Friday, April 22, that his credit card company called him to say a purchase was being attempted with his credit card number. He refused the transaction, then checked his account and discovered that another fraudulent transaction had been made. He reported that to his credit card company, according to police.

SHOTS FIRED TURN OUT TO BE TEENS SHOOTING FIREWORKS

After several people called police to report what sounded like “shots fired,” on Saturday, April 23, officers went looking for a brown vehicle that witnesses said they heard the noise coming from. Police found the car on Butternut Lane and searched the three 16-year-olds from Northbrook who were inside. They found one single report mortar style firework under the front seat, which all three juveniles denied owning. Police took the 16-year-olds to the station, where they were issued a local ordinance tickets for possession of fireworks and then released to their parents.

PUNCTURED TIRES

A man who parked his car overnight in the Renaissance Hotel lot on Skokie Boulevard had flat tires the next morning, Wednesday, April 20, according to police. When he took his car for repairs, he found that the tire sidewalls had been punctured. Damage was estimated at $500.

$1,000 VIOLIN STOLEN AT GLENBROOK NORTH

A violin worth $1,000 was reported stolen Friday, April 21, from an unlocked locker in the orchestra room at Glenbrook North, according to police.

MISSING TIRES, LADDER, COPPER PIPE

Someone took wheels and tires from two parked vehicles on Skokie Boulevard on Sunday, April 17, police reported.

A 40-foot extension ladder, 20-foot length of scaffolding and 24-foot length of scaffolding went missing from a work site on Commercial Avenue between Tuesday, April 19, and Wednesday April 20, according to police. The loss was estimated at $1,000.

An individual reported that copper pipe was taken from the rooftop of a Skokie Boulevard building sometime before Wednesday, April 20, according to police.

10 TABLES TIPPED AT VILLAGE GREEN

An individual reported that someone tipped over 10 picnic tables and a set of bleachers on Village Green Park sometime between Thursday, April 20, and Friday, April 21, according to police.

PROPERTY DAMAGE AT WESCOTT PARK

Someone damaged one of the support posts on a temporary fence at the baseball field at Wescott Park sometime overnight between Friday, April 22, and Saturday, April 23, according to police.
