Blotter: Drunk Man Parks In Middle of Street; Check Forged At Sunset Foods

The police report for June 12-19.

The items below come from Northbrook Police Department reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

INTOXICATED MAN STOPS CAR IN MIDDLE OF THE ROAD

John G. Sullivan, 45, of Northbrook, was arrested by police after an officer found him allegedly slumped over the wheel, stopped in his car in the middle of Walters Avenue Thursday, June 16. He was charged with stopping, standing or parking where it is prohibited and driving under the influence of intoxicating compounds.

UNDERAGE DRINKERS RUN FROM COPS

After a police officer spotted three teen boys hanging out behind Saturday, June 18, two boys ran away while a third did not. An officer learned that the three 16-year-olds from Northbrook had been drinking at one of the boys’ homes, and released the boy who did not run to his parents. Police then found the other two boys at one of their homes, where his parents maintained that they had been with their son for the previous hour and would not let an officer conduct field sobriety tests. Both teens said they were not at Wescott School, according to police. However, an officer observed that they had trouble speaking, bloodshot eyes, and smelled like alcohol. Neither teen was charged yet, although police department spokesperson Mike Shep said an investigation is still pending.

TEENS SMOKING CIGARS, USING MARIJUANA

Two 15-year-old boys and two 16-year-old boys, all from Northbrook, were caught smoking cigars at the behind the baseball diamond Friday, June 17, according to police. One 15-year-old had a drug pipe and cannabis on him, and one 16-year-old had a bag of cannabis. Police issued local ordinance tickets for possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of tobacco by a minor.

POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA

Adam G. Levin, 18, of Northbrook, was issued local ordinance tickets for possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia after police caught him with marijuana in Saturday, June 18, according to police. An officer also found a grinder and pipe in his car.

BURGLARY ON DEER TRAIL COURT

A resident of Deer Trail Court reported that he found the front screen and entry doors open when he came home Tuesday, June 14, according to police. He also found a broken front window that was sitting slightly ajar with the outside screen ripped open. Inside, he told police that his TV and surround system had gone missing. The burglary happened sometime between about 8:45 a.m. Tuesday morning and when he came home at 3:30 p.m., according to police.  

FORGED CHECKS AT SUNSET FOODS

Deana M. Taylor, of Mokena, was arrested after she allegedly attempted to use fraudulent checks at Monday, June 13, according to police. She was charged with forgery, a felony.

DRIVING WITH A SUSPENDED LICENSE

Cynthia I. Torres, 41, of Chicago, was stopped for a traffic violation Monday, June 13, at Dundee Road and Western Avenue. She was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license, according to police.

Francisco Vilchis, 32, of Chicago, was arrested at Willow Road and Patriot Boulevard Tuesday, May 17, and charged with driving with a suspended license and driving without a valid license, according to police.

 $5,000 COMPUTER STOLEN ON COMMERCIAL AVENUE

After a man notified police that he spotted a broken window in a business on Commercial Avenue Sunday, June 12, officers discovered that a Mac Pro desktop computer worth approximately $5,000 was stolen. Police did not find evidence of any other similar burglaries in the area.  

RETAIL THEFT AT NORDSTROM RACK

Fernando M. Garcia, 64, of Skokie, was issued a local ordinance ticket for a retail theft that occurred at Nordstrom Rack Wednesday, May 11, according to police.

STOLEN WALLET, CLOTHES, KEYS, BIKES

A woman reported that on Friday, June 10, she discovered that her debit card and iPhone 4G, worth approximately $400, had been stolen, according to police.

A man told police that clothes and keys, worth $175 together, were taken from his locked locker on Techny Road Tuesday, June 14.

A man reported that his black and silver 21-speed TREK mountain bike went missing from a locked storage room on Pheasant Creek sometime on Tuesday, June 14.

A woman informed police that someone took her son’s unlocked blue Trek multi-speed bike, worth approximately $250, from her front lawn on Huckleberry Lane sometime between Thursday, June 16, and Friday, June 17.
