Blotter: DUI While Texting; 3 Homes Ransacked

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE AND TEXTING

A 17-year-old boy from Northbrook was stopped for a traffic violation and arrested in the 2200 block of Center Avenue, according to police. He was charged with driving under the influence, texting while driving and improper lane usage.

Craig Bradley Carlsen, 62, of Northbrook, was stopped for a traffic violation Wednesday, Nov. 30, in the 1500 block of Waukegan Road, according to police. He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, driving without lights, improper lane usage and driving without a license on his person.

Rebecca M. Horton, 38, of Villa Park, was stopped for a traffic violation and arrested at Lake Cook Road and Red Oak Lane Friday, Dec. 2, according to police. She was charged with driving under the influence, improper lane usage and driving without insurance.

DRIVER IN CAR ACCIDENT CITED FOR CANNABIS

A 17-year-old boy from Northbrook was issued local ordinance tickets for possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving without valid insurance after he was involved in a car accident at Pfingsten and Techny roads Monday, Nov. 28, according to police.

DRIVING WITH A SUSPENDED LICENSE

Jesus Martinez-Sanchez, 25, of Highland Park, was arrested Thursday, Dec. 1, at Skokie Boulevard and Dundee Road and charged with driving with a suspended license, according to police. 

Brandon J. Mottley, 21, of Evanston, was stopped for a traffic violation and arrested Friday, Dec. 2, at Lake Cook Road and Skokie Boulevard, according to police. He was charged with driving with a suspended license and improper display of a registration plate.

Reginald J. Brown, 41, of Plainfield, was stopped for a traffic violation and arrested Saturday, Dec. 3, at Dundee Road and Skokie Boulevard, according to police. He was charged with driving with a suspended license and improper lane usage.

DRIVING WITH SUSPENDED REGISTRATION

Kalen D. Socha, 26, of Glenview, was stopped for a traffic violation and arrested on charges of driving with suspended registration Monday, Nov. 28, at Willow Road and Founders Drive, according to police.

Michael P. Toppel, 64, of Glenview, was arrested on charges of driving with suspended registration Friday, Dec. 2, in the 2200 block of Ash Lane, police reported.

POSSESSION OF CANNABIS

Nicole A. Smith, 29, of Chicago, was issued a citation for possession of marijuana at Dundee and Midway roads Monday, Nov. 28, when an officer stopped her for a traffic violation and noticed a plastic baggie with a green leafy substance “in plain view in her purse,” according to police.

HOMES RANSACKED ON WOODMERE, WESTERN AND PAWTUCKET

Someone forced open the door of a home in the 2800 block of Woodmere Drive Tuesday, Nov. 29, and “ransacked” the house, according to police. A fur coat, jewelry and silverware, among other items, were reported missing, with a total value of more than $200,000.

In a separate incident, someone forced open the front door and ransacked a home in the 1900 block of Western Avenue during the afternoon of Thursday, Dec. 1, according to police. It is unknown what is missing at this time.

In a third incident, someone forced open a window and ransacked the bedrooms of a home in the 3000 block of Pawtucket Road Saturday, Dec. 3. Jewelry worth at least $5,000 was stolen, police reported. 

CAR BURGLARY ON BRIAN DRIVE

Someone smashed the driver’s side window of a car on Brian Drive Wednesday, Nov. 30, and stole a radar detector worth $300, $80 in cash, a $1,500 laptop, a $150 black leather coat, two pairs of Adidas gym shoes worth $140 and an Xbox game worth $60, according to police. 

DECEPTIVE PHONE CALL

A resident of the 2100 block of Foxglove Drive received a call on Tuesday, Nov. 29, from someone who claimed to be her grandson and said he had been in a car accident in Lima, Peru, and needed her to send him $3,500 via Western Union. She called Western Union to wire the money but was told she could not do so without internet access, according to police. She next called her son, who called her grandson and found out he was at his college in Ohio. 

RETAIL THEFT AT GEORGE GARNER CYCLERY

Someone stole two bike computers and a speed trap sensor from George Garner Cyclery Friday, Dec. 2, according to police. 

CAR GETS STAMPED

Someone stamped the roof and passenger side windows of a car parked in the 800 block of Willow Road Tuesday, Nov. 29, using a small ink stamp, according to police. The car’s owner counted about nine stamp marks. 

VANDALISM ON WHITE PINE DRIVE

Someone shattered a pane of glass on the gas light of a home in the 2800 block of White Pine Drive overnight on Monday, Nov. 28, according to police. Damage was estimated at $50.
