Blotter: Fraudulent ID; 16-Year-Olds Arrested for Alcohol Possession

Car Accident Leads to DUI Charge

James R. Doar, 48, of Northbrook, was charged with driving under the influence and failing to yield Monday, Jan. 30, after he was involved in a car accident at Waukegan Road and Walters Avenue, according to police.

Vasyl Prokopiv, 28, of Hoffman Estates, was arrested on charges of driving under the influence in River Grove. He surrendered himself at the Wednesday, Feb. 2.

Cosmin F. Catalinoiu, 20, of Westland, MI, was arrested and charged with possessing a fraudulent ID Wednesday, Feb. 2, at the Northbrook Currency Exchange. Dinu R. Rascol, 27, of Dearborn Heights, MI, was also arrested on an outstanding warrant and charged with theft in that same incident, according to police.

Driving Without A License

Armando Martinez-Hernandez, 33, of Chicago, was stopped for a traffic violation and issued a ticket for driving without a license Tuesday, Jan. 31, in the 1900 block of Dundee Road.

Reckless Driving

Robert M. Paton, of Buffalo Grove, was arrested at Laurel and Dundee roads Saturday, Feb. 4, and charged with reckless driving, police reported.

Driving With A Suspended License

Sung S. Park, 26, of Northbrook, was stopped for a traffic violation and charged with driving with a suspended license and driving with improper lighting Monday, Jan. 30, in the 1600 block of Shermer Road, according to police. 

David C. Abbott, 52, of Northfield, was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license and driving with expired registration Wednesday, Feb. 2, in the 900 block of Skokie Boulevard, police reported. 

Possession of Alcohol By a Minor

Two 16-year-old boys, one from Glencoe and one from Wilmette, were issued citations for possession of alcohol at Otis & Lee Liquors Thursday, Feb. 3, according to police. Ian Mooney Salazar, 21, of Glenview, was allegedly seen outside the liquor store with the two boys and later putting two cases of Icehouse beer in their car. When police stopped the vehicle, the two boys admitted that they were 16 years old and had asked Mooney-Salazar to buy alcohol for them. 

Police arrested Mooney-Salazar and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, possession of cannabis and possession of alcohol by a minor. A fourth individual who was also in the vehicle, Michael A. Johnson of Northbrook, 20, was issued a ticket for possession of cannabis, according to police.

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Kayla G. Epstein, 55, of Northbrook, was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia at Dundee and Midway roads Monday, Jan. 30, after she was allegedly seen “cleaning, filling and attempting to light a ‘one-hitter’ pipe,” according to police.

Forged Checks

A resident of the 2800 block of Dundee Road reported that someone was cashing unauthorized checks using her bank account, according to police. 

$8,000 Retail Theft at Best Buy

A woman gained entry to a secure cabinet at Best Buy Saturday, Feb. 4, and stole several iPod Touch and iPod Nano devices worth $8,809.83 in total, according to police. 

Stolen $3,500 Generator

Someone took a portable Honda generator worth $3,500 from a home in the 1100 block of Whitfield Road between Thursday, Jan. 24, and Friday, Jan. 27, according to police.   

Stolen Wallet

A wallet was reported stolen from a purse at Whole Foods on Sunday, Jan. 29, according to police. Inside was more than $500 in cash and credit cards.

Two Car Burglaries on Shermer Road

Someone entered an unlocked vehicle that was parked in the north lot at Glenbrook North between 8 a.m. and noon Tuesday, Jan. 31, and stole a $200 “Navigon” GPS and two packs of cigarettes, police reported. 

A rear passenger window was broken and three circular cracks were found on the front passenger window of a car parked in the 2500 block of Shermer Road Tuesday, Jan. 31. A backpack was also stolen from the vehicle, according to police. 

Stolen Driver’s Side Mirror

A driver’s side mirror was stolen from a vehicle parked at Northbrook Court sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, according to police.

Car Gets Keyed at GBN

Someone keyed the right side of a vehicle parked in the north parking lot at Glenbrook North sometime on Monday, Jan. 30, according to police.
