Blotter: Swastikas Carved At Village Green, Possession of Marijuana With Intent to Deliver

The police report for May 31-June 4.

The items below come from Northbrook Police Department reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Driving Under the Influence

Bryan J. Abens, 24, of Northbrook, was arrested at Keystone Avenue and Redwood Lane Monday, May 30, and charged with driving without wearing a seatbelt, disobeying a police officer, disobeying a stop sign and driving under the influence, according to police.

Tom Garcia-Aquino, 31, of Highwood, was stopped for a traffic violation at Dundee and Waukegan roads Friday, May 3, arrested and charged with driving under the influence, using the improper lane, making an improper left turn, driving without a valid license and driving without insurance, according to police.

After someone reported finding graffiti carved on a picnic table on the Village Green, Tuesday, May 31, police discovered two swastikas, among other designs, etched into the wood.

Driver With A Revoked License

Rafael Sierra, 27, of Chicago, was stopped for a traffic violation at Skokie Boulevard and Dundee Road Saturday, June 4, arrested and charged with driving with improper lights, driving with a revoked license and driving without insurance, according to police.

Possession of Cannabis With Intent to Deliver

Jason L. Huska, 18, of Northbrook, was arrested on Hemlock Knoll Terrace Friday, June 3, and charged with possession of cannabis and intent to deliver, according to police. In the same incident, Christian J. Langlois, 18, of Northbrook, was issued a local ordinance ticket for possession of cannabis and Philip Sales, 18, also of Northbrook, was issued a local ordinance ticket for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Retail Theft Leads To Warrant Arrest

Mohamed H. Benwahoud, 34, of Chicago, was arrested and charged with retail theft after he allegedly took a $140 pair of glasses from the Sunglass Hut and a $440 pair from Lens Crafters at Northbrook Court Wednesday, June 1, police reported. He will be extradited to Maryland due to an outstanding warrant for his arrest on charges of larceny, according to police.

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Robert J. Allen 21, of Northbrook, was stopped for a seatbelt check at Waukegan Road and Kiest Avenue Sunday, May 29, and found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia, according to police. He was issued a local ordinance ticket.

Work Van, Car Burglarized

After shopping at Willow Festival Tuesday, May 31, a man reported that he discovered the lock on his car had been punched out and the passenger-side rear door was damaged, according to police. Missing items included four drills, one band saw, three rolls of copper wire and a Sawzall brand saw.  

A woman reported that someone stole her purse and its contents from her vehicle, which was parked at Pfingsten and Koepke roads Saturday, June 4, according to police. 

Three Cars Damaged In Parking Lots 

A man reported that someone made a mark in the paint on his vehicle while it was parked in the lot at Dundee and Pfingsten roads Sunday, May 29, according to police.

An individual reported that someone keyed his car while it was parked at Glenbrook North High School Thursday, June 2, according to police.

A woman reported that someone damaged the trunk lid of her vehicle with a sharp instrument while it was parked at Dundee and Pfingsten roads sometime between 2 and 10 p.m. Friday, June 3.

Flower Thief

A resident of Woodbine Lane reported that someone removed two hanging flower baskets on the walkway leading up to her residence, according to police. The flowers, valued at approximately $20 altogether, went missing sometime during the week before Tuesday, May 31.
