Blotter: Warrant Arrests, Burglary Attempt and $20,000 Mink Stolen

The police report for April 11-17.

The items below come from Northbrook Police Department reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

WARRANT ARRESTS

Thomas D. O’Connell, 48, of Naperville, was stopped for a traffic violation and arrested on an outstanding warrant Sunday, April 10, at Willow Road and Lexington Lane, according to police. He is charged with reckless conduct.

Ascension Medina, 22, Fermin Salgado, 27, and Jose L. Medina-Cruz, 30, all of Wheeling, were stopped for suspicious activity at Dundee Road and Sutton Drive Friday, April 15, according to police. An officer then determined that the Cook County Sheriff’s Office had warrant for Medina’s arrest for driving under the influence, police reported. He was arrested and also charged with possessing a fraudulent ID card, according to police. Salgado was arrested and turned over to the Wheeling Police Department on an outstanding warrant, also for driving under the influence. Medina-Cruz was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license, police reported.

Jerry W. Richardson, 52, of Wheeling, was stopped for a traffic violation, arrested and charged with speeding and driving under the influence Monday, April 11, at Dundee and Portwine roads, police reported.

DRIVING WITH A SUSPENDED LICENSE

Tomas Martinez, 30, of Racine, WI, was stopped at Dundee Road and Oakleaf Terrace for a traffic violation, arrested, and charged with driving with a suspended license, improper use of registration, driving without valid registration, driving with expired registration and driving without valid insurance, according to police.

ATTEMPTED BURGLARY ON SUNSET RIDGE ROAD

An officer noticed that there were indications of forced entry in the rear door leading to the garage of a home on Sunset Ridge Road Monday, April 11, according to police. Other doors were secure, however, and no items were found to be missing from the garage, police reported. 

POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA, DRUG PARAPHERNALIA

With the help of a trained K-9 dog, an officer found cannabis in the center console of a car parked in the back lot of an apartment complex on Valencia Drive, according to police. Two men were sitting in the car at the time, and one, James N. Ransdell, 22, of Northbrook, admitted that the marijuana was his, police reported. Ransdell was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis.

A 17-year-old boy from Northbrook was stopped on Maple Avenue on Saturday, April 16, for a traffic violation and found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia, according to police. He was issued a citation and sent home to his parents.

STOLEN MINK COAT WORTH $20,000 AND MORE RETAIL THEFT

A granite-colored Akris brand mink and silk coat valued at $19,990 went missing from a display rack on the top level of Neiman Marcus sometime between 10:10 a.m. and 1:50 p.m. Saturday, April 16, according to police.

Jolanta Janus, 41, of Chicago, was arrested and charged with retail theft after she allegedly left the Lord & Taylor at Northbrook Court Sunday, April 17, without paying for $200 worth of clothes, according to police.

WALLET STOLEN AT BEST BUY; iPOD STOLEN AT GBN

A man reported that his wallet was stolen Sunday, April 10, while he was getting his computer repaired at the Best Buy on Willow Road. He told police that he set his computer, monitor and wallet in a cart and pushed it to the “Geek Squad” help desk. He then went to the back of the store to look at new computer monitors, leaving his wallet in the cart at the help desk. When he came back, the wallet was missing. It contained several credit cards and $300 in cash, according to police.

An individual reported that someone took his iPod, calculator and driver’s permit from his backpack at Glenbrook North on Tuesday, April 12, according to police. The loss was estimated at $100.

THREE MAILBOXES DAMAGED

Police reported that three mailboxes on Lee Road were struck with blunt objects.

KEYED VEHICLE ON DEHNE ROAD

A man parked on Dehne Road reported to police that someone keyed his vehicle on Sunday, April 10.
