Body in Pond Identified as Deerfield Man

The 45-year-old drowned. Foul play is not suspected, police said.

The body pulled out of a Deerfield pond Friday morning has been identified as 45-year-old Brian Grundei of Deerfield, according to Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Orlando Portillo.

He was found in a pond in the Coromandel subdivision at Waukegan and Kates.

The cause of death is drowning, but there has not yet been a ruling on whether it was an accident or suicide, Portillo said. The coroner's office will get a toxicology report back in four to six weeks, he said, and will work with the Deerfield Police Department to determine the manner of death.

Deerfield police said there is no indication of foul play.

The Deerfield Police Department posted the following information on its Facebook page at 9:30 a.m. Friday:

Deerfield Police personnel are on scene in the Coromandel subdivision (Waukegan/Kates) investigating the recovery of a body from a pond in that area. No foul play is suspected at this point of the preliminary investigation. Lake County Coroner's Office is also on scene. More information will be released through our social media pages as it becomes available.
