Car Struck by Metra Train, Driver Killed in Lake Forest
Witnesses told police the driver went around lowered railroad gates Saturday afternoon.
A 35-year-old man died Saturday when his vehicle was struck by a Metra train around 1:30 p.m., Lake Forest police said.
Police said a black, four-door sedan was hit by a southbound train on Old Mill Road west of Waukegan Road. The car was pushed about 100 yards south along the tracks.
Paramedics responded to the scene and immediately determined the driver was deceased.

The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team also responded to the scene and is working with Lake Forest Police officers and detectives to investigate the crash.
According to witnesses at the scene, the sedan was eastbound driving toward the tracks on Old Mill Road when the warning lights and bells activated and the gate at the crossing lowered. The sedan then drove around the gate and continued eastbound, where it was struck by the train.

Identification of the driver will be announced by the Lake County Coroner’s office after his family has been notified.
