(Update at 6 p.m.) Deerfield Police expect Commonwealth Edison to complete restoration of utility lines on Lake Cook Road just west of Waukegan Road sometime late Saturday, according to a Department spokesperson.
The two westbound lanes between of Lake Cook Road between Waukegan Road and Corporate Drive remain closed but are expected to reopen sometime Saturday night.
According to a witness commenting on the Deerfield Patch Facebook page, the driver of the vehicle which collided with a garbage truck drove through a red light. The crash caused the truck to knock down a utility pole.
“Word is that a woman ran a red light and hit the truck,” Brian Todd wrote on Facebook. “Not the truck driver's fault if that's true.” Police said the incident is still under investigation.
A person living in the area said the Comcast Internet connection in the immediate neighborhood stopped working.
(Update at 2:55 p.m.) The intersection of Lake Cook and Waukegan Roads is now open but Lake Cook remains closed westbound from Waukegan Road to Corporate Drive, according to a spokesperson for the Deerfield Police Department.
(Earlier at 10:55 a.m.) A passenger vehicle and garbage truck collided at the intersection of Lake Cook and Waukegan Roads this morning bringing down a utility pole and closing the intersection until at least noon, according to reports from Deerfield officials.
Traffic is being diverted off Waukegan Road southbound at Kates Road and northbound at Chestnut Street, according to a spokesperson for the Deerfield Police Department. Lake Cook Road is closed between Corporate Drive on the west and Ellendale on the east.
A passenger vehicle was traveling northbound on Waukegan Road when it collided with a garbage truck heading west on Lake Cook Road causing the truck to knock down a utility pole, according to Deerfield Bannockburn Fire Protection District Deputy Chief Ray Larson. One person was transported to the hospital.
The delay opening the intersection is because the new poll must be transported from Rockford, according to Larson.
