Driver Crashes Car Into Pond, Charged With DUI

Police say the driver in a car accident on Waukegan Road last Friday was operating his vehicle under the influence of alcohol when he crossed two lanes of traffic and crashed into a pond by the side of the road. He now faces criminal charges.

A man was charged with driving under the influence after his car left the roadway and became submerged in a pond by Techny Towers.

Richard M. Weiss, 52, of Northbrook, swerved into opposing lanes of traffic before crashing his car on the west side of Waukegan Road just south of Founders Drive around 7 p.m. last Friday, according to police.

An ambulance took him to Glenbrook Hospital that night to be treated for injuries. The following morning he was taken to the police station, where he was charged with improper lane usage, driving in the wrong lane, failure to reduce speed and driving under the influence.
