Driver Who Hit Josh’s Was In Her Late 80s

Police report that no charges were filed.

The woman who accidentally drove over a parking barrier and through the front door of Tuesday was 87 or 89 years old, according to police.

Employee Hugo Ochoa was preparing the Sanders Road store for opening when he noticed the woman driving back and forth slowly in front of the door, apparently attempting to park.   

“Then there was a big noise,” he said. “I just backed up, fast.” 


At approximately 9:52 a.m., her Honda CR-V leapt over the curb and slammed into the restaurant, knocking out the front door and several sheets of glass. Ochoa was standing a few feet from the door, at the other end of the counter. Neither he nor the driver injured, according to Northbrook Fire Chief Mark Nolan.

Since the accident happened on private property, no citations were filed, according to a spokesperson for the police department. However, police have asked the woman to take a test administered by the Secretary of State’s office before she can drive again. State law mandates that drivers aged 87 years and older must renew their licenses every year.

She must be a pretty good driver, as she managed to steer exactly between the bollards that were placed to prevent such accidents.
