Drunk Teen Breaks Lamppost, Climbs Roof

A 17-year-old Northbrook boy allegedly broke a lamppost with a scooter before police gained custody.

Police arrested a Northbrook teen last Friday, June 17, after he was allegedly caught staggering drunkenly down Woodlawn Road and hitting things with a Razor scooter.

An anonymous tipster called 911 after hearing breaking glass and seeing the 17-year-old from Northbrook stumbling down the sidewalk with a metal object in his hands, according to police.

When a squad car arrived, the teen ran away and climbed to the roof of a home on Royal Drive. He then fell or jumped from the highest part of the roof and landed on the ground next to the residence, where officers took him into custody.

According to police, the teen smelled strongly of alcoholic beverages. While in custody, he appeared to pass out briefly and was taken to Glenbrook Hospital.  At the hospital, he turned over a plastic bag containing cannabis to an officer, saying it belonged to him, police reported. He also told an officer that he and his friends had been drinking at his girlfriend’s house but left when they believed police had been called.

Officers later found a damaged lamppost and the scooter laying abandoned on Woodlawn Road.

The teen was issued local ordinance tickets for criminal damage to property, disorderly conduct, drug possession, and consumption of alcohol as a minor.

The item above comes from Northbrook Police Department reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
