Police Chase of DUI Suspect Starts By Car And Ends On Foot

A driver who was suspected of being under the influence did not pull over for police and ultimately tried to escape on foot.

A driver suspected of being under the influence sped away from an officer who was trying to pull him over, then got out and tried to run away on foot before he was tackled by the officer last Friday, April 8, police reported.

Police attempted to stop Eric W. Slapak, 29, of Northbrook, shortly before 9 p.m. for driving erratically at Dundee and Waukegan roads shortly before 9 p.m.

“I think he sped up a little bit and then he bailed out of the car,” said Community Relations Supervisor Michael Shep.

Police followed Slapak as he allegedly drove to a dead end on Keystone Road, where he got out of his car and began running away. An officer chased him and tackled him in a front yard on the block before taking him into custody.

“People flee the police for a number of reasons,” commented Shep. “It happens, but it doesn’t happen every day.”
