Duo Charged With Five Burglaries in Northbrook

A Libertyville and Waukegan man were charged in connection with a recent spate of burglaries in central Northbrook.

Two men were arrested in connection with a spate of burglaries that took place last Wednesday night in one Northbrook neighborhood.

Joseph M. Smith, 20, of Libertyville, and Anton T. Herres, 19, of Waukegan, were each charged with three counts of residential burglary, according to police. Smith is also charged with one count of theft.

The men are charged in connection with five residential burglaries that took place overnight in an area bounded by Greenview, Butternut, Asbury and Southridge streets.

Northbrook police detectives worked in conjunction with Libertyville and Waukegan police to track down both suspects. Detectives discovered some property that was reported missing after the burglaries in Smith’s Libertyville apartment, police said, while Waukegan police identified and arrested Herres as a suspect.

In some homes, the burglars appear to have entered via doors or windows that were left unsecured, while in others, police discovered evidence of forced entry. Cash, iPods, iPhones and jewelry are among the items reported missing.

Police advise residents to remember to lock their doors and to tune in to NCTV - Cable Channel 17 at 9:19 a.m. and 5:19 p.m. daily during November for a “Home Security Public Service Message” from the police department.
