Elderly Woman Wires $11,400 To Scam Artist

A resident of Anthony Trail was the victim of deceptive practices, according to police.

An older woman wired more than $11,000 via Western Union in what turned out to be a scam, according to police. 

The Anthony Trail resident, who said she fills out lots of sweepstakes forms, received a phone call from someone who said she had won $1,000,000 in a lottery, she told police on May 25. The individual then instructed her to send money via Western Union to cover taxes and fees associated with the winnings.

Over the next four days, she wired a total of $11,400 to someone who turned out to be a scam artist, police reported.
