Forklift Accident Causes $250K In Damage

A fork lift at Metals USA struck a water hose valve, causing water to ruin several tons of sheet metal.

The following report was part of Northbrook's weekly staff meeting.

Northbrook firefighters responded to an alarm at Metals USA, 3000 Shermer Rd. last week when a fork lift placing a four ton roll of metal in a storage rack, struck and broke a water hose valve.

The broken valve sprayed water on several tons of rolled sheet metal, which will now rust as a result of the damage, rendering the metal unusable.

Firefighters were able to shut down the system and helped mitigate additional damage. Facility management estimated about $250,000 worth of material was damaged.
