Glenbrook Storm Updates

Ongoing information about power outages, road closures, school closures and flood warnings throughout Northbrook and Glenview during Thursday's storm.


Northbrook
Northbrook Public Works can be reached at 847 272-4711 to report flooding, sewer back-ups or downed trees.

Road Closures (according to Village Hall)
Motorists are reminded to NOT remove barricades or drive around barricades. 

  • The Cherry Lane underpass is open near downtown Northbrook — this is subject to change.
  • The entrances to the Edens are closed due to flooding.
  • Willow Road and Shermer Road are flooded.
  • Willow Road and Patriot Boulevard are flooded.

School Closures (according to Emergency Closing Center)

Power Outages (according to ComEd)
If you experience a ComEd outage, please it to report by calling 1-800-EDISON-1. 

  • About 40 customers are without power near Shadowood Lane and Sunset Ridge Road. 
  • A very small power outage was reported near Pfingsten Road and Maria Avenue, near Underwriters Labs.

Sand bags are available to residents at Northbrook's Public Works facility, 655 Huehl Rd. at the west garage entrance.

Rivers are at flood stage and basins at Northbrook Court, Pfingsten/Lake-Cook, Techny, and Meadowhill Park are filling.

Glenview
As of 10 a.m., the Village received about 3.4 inches of rain today and about 1.05 inches of rain yesterday, April 17.

For life-safety emergencies, dial 911. Glenview emergency crews are responding to 911 calls for emergency services.

For non-life safety requests, contact Village Hall at (847) 724-1700. A customer service representative will take your information, and Public Works crews will respond as soon as possible. Crews are monitoring street flooding and continually clearing storm sewer inlets, and are responding to other emergency service requests.

Sand and materials for making sandbags are available for at the following locations:

  • 426 Crabtree Lane
  • 644 Echo Lane
  • Raleigh Road and Drake Road
  • 1520 Sequoia Trail
  • 1550 Blackthorn Drive
  • 1615 Sequoia Trail
  • 1727 Sequoia Trail
  • Pine and Pine Court
  • Streets in the Tall Trees neighborhood are impassible (East Lake Ave. west of Waukegan Rd.)
  • 1100 block of Long Valley Rd. is closed
  • 500 block of Waukegan Rd. is closed
  • Golf Rd. east of Waukegan Rd. is closed
  • Willow Rd. between Shermer Rd. and Patriot Blvd. is closed
  • Street are impassible in the neighborhood bordered by East Lake Ave./Harms Rd./Glenview Rd. /Edens Expressway

Pre-made sandbags are available for pick up at the Public Works Service Center, 1333 Shermer Road.

Road Closures (According to Village Hall) 

  • Techny Basin, the major stormwater detention basin in Glenview located near Willow Road and Ravine Way, is approximately 48 percent full. 
  • Dewes between Harlem and Washington.
  • Dewes between Spruce and Elm.
  • Ferndale and Hunter.
  • Wilmette Avenue and Arbor Lane.
  • West Lake Avenue and Shermer Road.
  • Shermer Road and Old Willow Road.
  • Shermer Road and Patriot Boulevard.
  • Patriot Boulevard between Willow Road and West Lake Avenue.
  • Waukegan Road north of Golf Road (under the viaduct)

School Closures (According Emergency Closing Center) 

  • Washington School closed Thursday and Friday.

Power Outages (according to ComEd)

  • About 22 customers are without power near Glenayre Park, around Central Road and Glenayre Drive.

Robert Dold posted on Facebook: People in Glenview are recruiting an "On-Call Sand Bag Team" to place sandbags at homes of elderly and at homes adjoining the river. Must be able to lift heavy sandbags.
