Helicopter Transports Driver After Car Hits Tree

There were no other passengers or cars involved in the accident near Commercial Avenue and Huehl Road in Northbrook Wednesday morning.

A 19-year-old Chicago man was flown to a level one trauma center on Wednesday morning after his car hit a tree near Commercial Avenue and Huehl Road, according to Northbrook police and fire officials.

The accident remains under investigation and it is unclear how fast the driver was going, though he was in stable condition upon helicopter export, according to deputy fire chief Tim Smeltzer.

The car suffered extensive damage and a helicopter transport was required because "it took us a while to get him out," Smeltzer said.

There were no passengers in the car and no other vehicles were involved in the accident, according to police spokesman Mike Shep.
