House Fire Breaks Out On Michelline

Fire department fought a blaze that began in a bedroom of a home on Michelline Lane.

A fire broke out in a second-floor bedroom of a home on Michelline Lane in Northbrook Sunday night.

An elderly woman and her caregiver were on the first floor of the house when they discovered the blaze about 7:30 p.m. and called the fire department, according to Deputy Chief Ron Schinleber.

Fire departments in Northbrook, Glenview and Wheeling sent nine trucks total to fight the blaze.

“There was actually flame and smoke present in the room and it pretty well consumed everything,” Schinleber said.

The fire also caused smoke and heat damage to much of the home’s second floor, and there was minor water damage to the first floor. In total, Schinleber said the fire department was aware of at least $30,000 in property damage and $30,000 worth of damage to the contents of the home.

The fire appears to have started in the bedroom itself, Schinleber said, although firefighters have not yet determined the cause. He described it as a code four alarm, meaning neighboring fire departments were asked to help but a region-wide call out was not issued.
