If you insist on driving after a few drinks, here's what you should know about how alcohol affects your system. Please drink responsibly and avoiding the steering wheel is always the safest choice after drinking.

There's no doubt that complete sobrierty is certainly safer than drinking and driving. For some people, even one drink might be enough to affect their driving.

But the holidays are coming up, people will be out at dinner parties and the likelihood of encountering a drunk driver might even increase this time of year. 

So if you're going to drink and drive, which is not by any means condoned, at least have an idea of your body's biological tolerance to alcohol.

When police pull drivers over for suspected drunken driving, officers ask them to perform field sobriety tests and to take a breath test to measure Blood Alcohol Content.

A BAC test measures the percentage of alcohol present in a person's bloodstream. Illinois's legal limit is 0.08.

According to the Virginia Tech Alcohol Abuse Prevention website, every 40 minutes, 0.01 percent of alcohol leaves your system.
