Northfield police are warning residents of ruse burglaries after a Dec. 30 incident that led to stolen jewelry and coins worth "hundreds of thousands of dollars" during a bogus maintenance inspection, the Winnetka Talk reports.

Police are still investigating the burglary on the corner of Meadowview Dr. and Winfield Rd. where a man, posing as a worker who needed to "check the water" distracted, distracted homeowners while a possible accomplice ran out of the home with the stolen goods, the Winnetka Talk reports.
