The following items were part of a staff briefing sent to Village of Northbrook employees, highlighting recent police activity and other village affairs.
Earlier in June, a Park District employee called police to report suspicious activity at involving numerous juveniles. The Park District employee approached the juveniles and recognized components of a makeshift explosive device. The Park District employee was able to photograph one of the juveniles involved. Tactical Officers were able to identify the juvenile and eventually interviewed a several juveniles in reference to this incident and three other subsequent incidents. The investigation ultimately resulted in the arrest of six juveniles who were charged with disorderly conduct. They received station adjustments that included a 120 day supervision with monthly meetings with Tactical Officers, a 9pm nightly curfew until October, 20 hours of community service to be served with the Park District, a 1,000 word essay assignment, and ejection from Techny Prairie Park through July. The parents of the juveniles are cooperating with the police and Park District.
A vehicle parked in the 3400 block of Cornflower Trail had its driver’s door window smashed on Thursday evening, June 21, while the owner was watching a baseball game. A purse in visible sight on the front seat was removed. One of the credit cards contained in the purse had been compromised before the owner could make notification to the bank. The scene was processed for evidence and a canvas of the area conducted.
Two males were arrested this week for forgery at the U.S. Charter Bank. The men are part of a forgery ring and the Investigations Unit is currently looking into three additional forgeries that were previously unreported from this bank.
The Police Department Community Relations Unit manned a table at the Farmer’s Market this past week. Information and “give-aways” which included tote bags were distributed to the attendees. The bags were quite useful to patrons for their purchases.
