Man Charged with Threatening and Assaulting Officers

Someone also reported that fireworks were blown up in their mailbox.

The following information is from the Northbrook Police Department. An arrest is not an indication of guilt.

Aggravated assault to a police officer

Officers responded to a report of subject having a medical issue on the sidewalk in the 1300 block of Shermer Rd. on April 13 at 1 p.m. Officers determined that the subject, James E. Riley, 53, of Johnsburg, IL, was intoxicated.  When they attempted to assist him he swung at the officer and made several verbal threats. He was handcuffed and he continued to spit and kick at officers. Officers transported him to the police station where he continued to threaten violence and attempted to strike and kick several of the officers and fire personnel. Riley was charged with two counts of aggravated assault to a peace officer and one count of resisting a peace officer and was released on $1,500 bond with a May 1 court date.

A victim reported that his cell phone was stolen while he was at a park in the 1700 block of Techny Road April 10 at 8 p.m.                                   

Fireworks in a mailbox

A victim related that his mailbox was damaged when someone placed fireworks inside and ignited them April 10 at 10:30 p.m. in the 800 block of Northbrook Ave.    

Suspended registration

Edward R. Vondale, 25, of Park Ridge, was stopped for a traffic violation April 11 at 10 p.m. in the 2300 block of Shermer Road. Officers learned that the vehicle registration was suspended. He was processed and released on $1,000 bond with a May 9 court date
