Man Saved By Smoke Detector

Northbrook fire fighters responded to a reported house fire on the 1000 Block of Antique Ln.

The following reports were part of a memo distributed among Village of Northbrook staff

At approximately 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14, the responded to the 1000 Block of Antique Lane for a reported house fire. Upon arrival, units confirmed heavy smoke exiting from the front of the house and quickly extinguished the fire located on the first floor.

There was extensive heat and smoke damage throughout the house with damage estimated in the $175,000 range. No injuries were reported and the homeowner stated he was alerted to the fire by an activated smoke detector on the first floor.

Northbrook was assisted by fire departments from Deerfield, Highland Park and Lincolnshire through mutual aid. repaired a nearby water main break on Old Post Road that may have been attributed to the fluctuation in water pressure while opening the fire hydrant. The cause of the fire is most likely due to combustibles too close to a heat source.
