Northbrook Fire Crews Respond to Electrical Fire

On Dec. 30, firefighters found smoke coming from the electrical panel of a home on the 1200 block of Rudolph Drive.

Electrical Fire On Rudolph Drive

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 30, fire crews responded to the 1200 block of Rudolph Drive for a reported electrical fire. Upon arrival, companies found smoke coming from the electrical panel and quickly isolated power to the specific apartment unit. The homeowner said they had a technician at their residence previously looking at the furnace. The resident was advised to call a qualified electrical contractor for repairs. Damage was estimated at approximately $5,000.

Holiday Police Activity

Between Nov. 23, 2012 and Dec. 31, 2012, a holiday police detail was activated at Northbrook Court Mall and the Village Square shopping center. Many of the crimes that occurred during that time were complex financial crimes that demanded a calculated response to successfully suppress criminal efforts.

The detail was a coordinated team effort of sharing intelligence between police and businesses, improved loss prevention and strengthened mall security. As a result, police made 12 arrests and investigated more than thirty incidents. The annual holiday detail utilized predominantly on-duty personnel. Village hall called the detail "very successful."

ComEd Improvements

ComEd will be replacing failed underground cable along Doriann Drive, Hampton Lane, Highland Drive and Vicki Lane in an effort to resolve recent power reliability issues. Maintenance is scheduled to start the week of January 14 and will be complete before spring.

Work is expected to include directional boring of new cable to replace the existing cable that is failing. Restoration of any excavations will be completed after the winter weather has lifted. Residents affected by the improvements received notification letters from the Village.
