Northbrook Fire Department Extinguishes Tree Fire and Small Highway Blaze

The fire department responded to a tire fire on I-294 and a tree that caught on fire on Walters Ave.

Fire Department Responds to Semi Trailer Fire on Interstate 294

On Friday morning, Aug. 24, a semi truck and trailer traveling north on interstate highway 294 at Lake Cook Rd. caught on fire. The rear trailer brakes apparently malfunctioned, causing friction that caused the trailer’s tires to catch on fire. The truck was not carrying any cargo at the time of the fire. extinguished the burning tires with water mixed with firefighting foam. A watertanker from Prospect Heights Fire Department was also dispatched to the scene to assist Northbrook.

Parkway Tree Fire

Last week, an American Elm tree caught fire on Walters Ave. and was successfully extinguished by the fire department. No known cause for the fire is apparent but the tree was hollow on the side that burned. The tree was later deemed hazardous and removed by the Village’s contractor, Advanced Tree Care.
