Northbrook Resident and Retired Heavyweight Boxer Faces Possible Deportation
The former boxer could be deported to his birthplace, Poland, after a routine background check revealed several misdemeanor convictions.
When Northbrook resident Andrew Golota, 44, filed paperwork for U.S. citizenship two years ago, a routine criminal background check was triggered and revealed several crimes of "moral turpitude," which can be enough for deportation under immigration law, the Chicago Tribune reports.
According to the Tribune, Golota pleaded guilty in 2003 to impersonating a police officer by flashing an honorary New Jersey police badge after being pulled over for running a stop sign in Bolingbrook.
In 2006, Golota pleaded guilty to 12 misdemeanor counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, received six months of court supervision, paid a $3,600 fine and gave up the 12 guns, the Tribune writes.
