A Chicago man who worked as a teacher's aide at a Northbrook school for special needs children is charged with assaulting a deaf child, described as 'profoundly intellectually disabled.'

A Chicago man who worked as a teacher's aide at a Northbrook school for special needs children is charged with sexually assaulting a student described as deaf, and profoundly intellectually disabled, according to a press release from the Cook County State's Attorney's Office.

The alleged assault happened in the gymnasium of the school on or around August 26, 2013. The name of the school is not being released, according to a representative from the state's attorney's office.

According to the press release, 37-year-old Donald Arocho allegedly escorted the student to the bathroom prior to the assault occurring.

Arocho is charged with one count each of criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a child.

The victim allegedly told family members about the assault, and it was confirmed after a rape kit was performed at a local hospital.

Arocho's next court date is set for March 31.
