Thief Caught with $7K in Merchandise as Accomplices Run Off, Police Say

Also in this Northbrook police blotter, a homeowner on Scott returned to his house to find a glass door shattered and his home rummaged through.

The following information is from the Northbrook Police Department. An arrest is not an indication of guilt.

$7K in merchandise stolen

Police say three people entered a store in the 1400 block of Lake Cook Road Feb. 27 at 5 p.m. and started removing merchandise from display racks. All three headed towards the exit carrying the items. A store security agent was stationed outside and was able to stop one of the three and recover $7,000 in stolen merchandise. The other two offenders ran away. Deshay B. Robinson, 19, of Chicago, was taken into custody on felony retail theft charges and given a March 14 court date.

Jose F. Silva, 45, of Elgin, was stopped for a traffic violation Feb. 24 at 7:45 p.m. at Dundee and Landwehr roads. Officers learned that his Illinois drivers license was revoked. He was processed for diving on a revoked license, released on $1,500 bond and given an April 4 court date.

Police stopped Mandrall B. Nichols, 35, of Green Bay, WI, for a traffic violation Feb. 25 at 1:15 p.m. at Dundee and Hazelwood. Officers discovered that his registration was suspended and his insurance was expired. He was taken into custody on charges of improper lane usage, suspended registration and expired insurance and released on $2,000 bond.           

Break-in on Scott

The alarm company for a home in the 2200 block of Scott Road alerted the homeowner that the burglar alarm had activated Feb. 26 at 10:45 a.m.. When the homeowner checked on the residence, he saw that the rear patio door glass had been broken and areas throughout the home had been disturbed by the offender. The victim will compile a list of missing property.                 

Mailbox damaged

A victim told police his mailbox was damaged Feb. 27 in the 3100 block of Doriann Drive. Damage is estimated at $100.

Car break-in

A victim told police that his vehicle was burglarized while parked in a lot in the 1300 block of Techny Road Feb. 28 at 8:30 p.m. Officers could not locate any signs of forced entry to the auto.  A backpack and leather wallet containing cash, credit/debit cards and identification were stolen.
