Traffic Stop Leads to DUI, Other Charges

Several people were also charged with driving with suspended licenses.

The following is from the Northbrook Police Department. An arrest is not an indication of guilt.

DUI

Police stopped Devaughn W. Levi, 31, of Dolton, for a traffic violation at Willow and Virginia at 4:30 p.m. April 25. The officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from the defendant and in searching the vehicle located open alcohol and cannabis, police said. The defendant was determined to be under the influence and was charged with DUI drugs/alcohol, improper lane usage, improper parking on roadway, no valid registration, driving with a suspended license and no insurance. He was released on bond with a June 14 court date.

Nabor M. Carrillo, 45, of North Chicago, was stopped for a traffic violation at Shermer and Waukegan roads at 2:30 a.m. April 27. Officers learned that the driver’s Illinois driver’s license was suspended. He was placed under arrest and released on $1,500 bond with a May 30 court date.

Jean Josephe S. Garcia, 21, of Northbrook, was involved in an accident at Sanders and Lake Cook roads and was driving on a suspended driver’s license. He was placed under arrest for driving with a suspended license and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and released on bond with a May 14 court date.

Olanrewaju O. Taiwo, 19, of Chicago, was stopped for a traffic violation in the 3500 block of Dundee Road at 11:30 p.m. April 28. Officers learned that his driver’s license was suspended. He charged with driving with a suspended license and improper lighting, and released on $1,500 bond with a May 14 court date.                   

Andrea D. Simpson, 39, of Chicago, was stopped for expired registration at Picardy and Sanders at noon May 1. Officers discovered her driver’s license was suspended. She was charged with driving with a suspended license, expired registration and no insurance, and was released on $2,000 bond with a May 22 court date.

Gilberto Valencia-Ortega, 23, of Des Plaines, was stopped for an expired registration sticker in the 1100 block of Willow Road at 4:15 p.m. May 1. The officer discovered his drivers license was suspended and he was charged with driving with a suspended license and expired registration, and was released on $1,500 bond with a May 22 court date.
