The following report was part of Northbrook's weekly staff memo.

A Northbrook resident was pregnant when a drunk driver turned in front of her car, causing the two vehicles to impact. The driver and her baby were saved by a seatbelt.

On Feb. 4, at about 7:46 p.m., the resident was traveling eastbound on Lake Cook Road approaching the center entrance to Northbrook Court when a vehicle that was traveling westbound on Lake Cook Road made a left turn in front of her, causing the front of her vehicle to crash into the passenger side of the turning vehicle.

The resident was pregnant and wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash, which eliminated injury to her unborn child and reduced injuries that she sustained.

The driver of the turning vehicle was subsequently arrested for DUI.

Northbrook police submitted the resident for the Illinois Saved by the Belt Award. The driver's award was approved by the Illinois Department of Transportation - Division of Traffic Safety, and Chief Charles Wernick presented the award to her at the Northbrook Police Department on July 30.
