Winnetka Teen Killed in Hit-And-Run Crash

The Bard College student was killed, along with another young woman, while walking on the side of a road in upstate New York.

Sarah McCausland, 19, a Bard College student from Winnetka was one of two young women killed by a hit-and-run driver while walking along a road in upstate New York near the college, the Chicago Tribune reports.

"It is with sadness and profound regret that I inform the community that at midnight February 1 several students who were walking along the shoulder of 9G just north of the Tivoli intersection were struck by a hit and run driver," Bard College President Leon Botstein said in a message on the school's website

According to McCausland's Facebook page, she attended New Trier High School.

Sheriffs officers located the driver, identified as Carol Boeck, 63, or Red Hook, N.Y., the Tribune article says. She had a previous DWI conviction and was charged with felony driving while intoxicated and first-degree vehicular manslaughter.

The Poughkeepsie Journal reports that McCausland and a fellow student, 20-year-old Evelina Brown, of Seattle, were found dead at the scene. A third student had non-life threatening injuries.

The article says that Boeck's previous conviction was a misdemeanor for operating a motor vehicle with .08 of 1 percent or more blood alcohol content from 2005.
