Woman Tries to Sell Rental Car to Another Dealership

A woman was also arrested after police say she tried to buy a computer with fraudulent ID.

The following information is from the Northbrook Police Department. An arrest is not an indication of guilt.

Identity theft/fraud

Sherri J. Avery, 23, of the 200 block of East 77th Street in Chicago, attempted to purchase a $3,200 computer using a fraudulent ID and account at a store in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road June 8. Store security contacted police after the transaction did not go through. Officers determined that the identification used by the defendant for the transaction did not belong to her. She was transported to the station where she was processed awaiting pending bond court.

A loss prevention officer for a store in the 1400 block of Lake Cook Road saw Monika E. Pietruszka, 26, of the 300 block of Plum Creek in Wheeling, take items into a dressing room. She placed those items in a bag and then left the store without paying for them. She was released on $1,500 bond and given a July 23 court date.

A customer used a stolen credit card to make a purchase at a business in the 3500 block of Dundee Road on June 8. Employees aware of the incident called police when he returned on June 11. Officers that responded to that call tried to detain the man, later identified as Ivan Urquiza, of the 1800 block of SW 13th in Miama, in the parking lot but he drove away. Additional officers were able to stop him Dundee near Landwehr. He was taken into custody, processed and being held pending additional investigation. He was transported to Skokie Bond court on Friday June 13.

Theft

A victim reported the theft of a matte black BMX bicycle, worth $360, June 11 at 6 p.m. in the 1500 block of Shermer Road.

A woman reported the theft of a laptop computer from her desk in the 2300 block of Shermer Road between 4 and 5:30 p.m. June 10.

Criminal trespass to vehicle

Ariel Joann Abramson, 26, of the 2000 block of Shoreline in San Ramon, CA, attempted to sell a rental vehicle that she had taken possession of in Nevada to a dealership in the 1500 block of Skokie Blvd. She informed the sales person that she did not have the title or registration. In checking the sales person learned that the VIN number registered to Budget Rent a Car and had been rented on May 1 but never returned. Officers contacted the rental agency and the rental agency reported they would sign complaints. She was released on $1,500 bond with a July 23 court date.
