A Sea Of Red, White And Blue Flies For Vets In Northbrook
Village honors veterans this weekend with 1,901 flags planted on the Village Green.
This weekend, Village Green Park goes red, white and blue with nearly 2,000 flags honoring local members of the armed forces.
With the help of local volunteers, the and other sponsors, the has transformed into a memorial for soldiers who have given their lives in the service of war and peace.
The honor field is composed of 1,858 flags--43 short of the 1,901, the year the Village of Northbrook was incorporated. Those missing 43 flags represent the soldiers from Northbrook that have lost their lives in past wars, and will be placed around the local baseball diamond where many of them played as children.

The weekend-long memorial features The Legacy Girls, a number of musical performances in the Village Green Park gazebo, and the Muligan's Battery Cannon, presented by the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War SVR unit.
Events take place every day through Tuesday, when the flags come down.
