Air Force Reserve Colonel Becomes Fourth Dold Challenger

John Tree brings combination of business and military experience to his campaign for Congress.

Business owner and Air Force Reserve Col. John Tree, 45, of Long Grove will become the fourth Democratic candidate seeking his party’s nomination in the March 20 primary to earn the opportunity to challenge Rep. next November for the 10th Congressional District seat.

Tree will officially announce his candidacy tomorrow, according to spokesperson Ken Snyder. He will join Waukegan community organizer , Deerfield management consultant and Mundelein attorney in the expanding Democratic field.

“He has the breadth of experience as well as the moral authority of wearing his country’s uniform to hold Dold accountable,” Snyder said.

Tree decided to make his first run for public office in part because Dold sided with the Republican majority over the debt ceiling debate that almost shut down the country, according to Snyder.

A Long Grove resident since 2005, Tree lived in 18 different places before he entered the United States Air Force Academy, according to Snyder. He and his wife Michelle currently operate a marketing business in Long Grove.

In addition to his degree from the Air Force Academy, Tree holds an MBA from Chaminade University in Hawaii and a Masters in Economics from the University of Oklahoma. His time in the corporate world included stints with Proctor & Gamble and Kellogg.

"I WILL BE ABLE TO WORK WITH REPUBLICANS TO GET US OUT OF THE MESS WE'RE IN". Then he should be running as an elephant.

Louis everyone who knows your posts here and elsewhere knows you're a big Kirky fan so I guess your snide remark is to be expected. Pentagon brass chastised Kirk for actually campaigning and talking to the press while he was supposed to be on duty. Those are no-no's. It was the public at large that chastised him for using photos of him sitting in jets that he never flew and for making claims about honors and service that were also simply not true. Why do you post this make believe stuff when it's so easy to do some basic fact checking? The Pentagon allows military men and women who are candidates like Kirk and this guy to use pics in military garb for biography and background. A news article about Kirk or Tree that shows them in uniform is not campaigning. It's just news.

The GOP candidate doesn't live in the 10th either. Pretty far away from it from what I read. But Dold is still living in his mommy and daddy's house so it's pretty understandable why he doesn't want to move.

Gena, read up on the military code. The photo is ok to use like that. Kirk used plenty of photos in uniform. Somehow I get the feeling you were ok with it when Kirk did that.

Yep, the Dems are getting antsy about taking the district back from the Republicans. But, since they haven't been able to do it for well over 20 years, what makes them think they can do it now. Seals was a loser and now there's four more. Even with the Dems winning in 2008, they still couldn't defeat the Republicans. Maybe they should all just leave it in Republican control.
