Car Accidents on Cherry Lane, Covenant Village Construction On Tonight's Village Board Agenda

A regular village board meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. tonight at Village Hall.

Tonight’s village board meeting includes a report on curb bump-outs on Cherry Lane, preliminary review of a special permit for construction and a discussion of contributions to local nonprofits.

First on the agenda for the evening the ’s report on bump outs on Cherry Lane, which were installed in 2008 when the street was reconstructed and are designed to reduce speeds and create safer crosswalks. A study conducted by the village shows that the total number of accidents on Cherry Lane went down from 27 in 2007 to 15 in 2010. So far, there has been one accident in 2011.

As for construction at Covenant Village, the retirement community is seeking an extension of a special permit for construction of a new building. Covenant Village would like to postpone construction on a proposed three-story, 56-unit independent living structure for another year due to the economic downturn.

Also on the docket is a discussion of how to distribute the $163,500 set aside in the fiscal year 2011-12 budget for local nonprofits. After a meeting May 17 at which the administration and finance committee heard from various organizations seeking funding, the committee unanimously recommended contributions to , Senior Citizen Transportation, the Fourth of July Association, , Arts Commission, and the .
