Lake Cook Road Construction Starts April, Headaches for Business Owners

Scheduled to start in April, the $9-million construction project on Lake Cook and Waukegan roads on the border of Northbrook and Deerfield will add two extra lanes on Lake Cook Road, two left turn lanes on Waukegan road, 40,000 square-feet of extra sidewalk, utility and roadway improvements, but also headaches for businesses near the two roads, Chicago Tribune Reported.

Construction is expected to last until October with one lane open in each direction for the four-lane Lake Cook and Waukegan roads during construction, but Humberto Aguallo, general manager at Boston Blackies in Deerfield, told Chicago Tribune that leaving one lane will be a disaster and he expects the restaurant to see at least a 30 percent loss in business.

When the first phase of the construction was completed in 2011, delays on Lake Cook Road of over an hour between the Tri-State Toll way and Waukegan Road were not uncommon.

Officials of the project and the local municipalities plan on making an effort to keep people updated on the project so alternative choices can be made.
