Metra Platform Reconstruction Begins Today

Project is expected to take 2-3 months.

Workers will begin construction on the southbound platform at the downtown beginning Thursday, Aug. 11.

Commuters can expect some areas of the platform to be closed to pedestrian traffic for approximately 14 weeks while crewmembers work to remove and reconstruct the asphalt surface.

“The inbound platform needs to be rehabilitated due to wear and tear,” said Tom Miller, a spokesperson for Metra.

During the first phase of construction, the platform will be blocked off from the southern edge of the depot to crosswalk just north of the train station, Miller said. Eight parking spaces will also be blocked off.

In the second phase of construction, crews will block off the depot from the crosswalk to Shermer Road, with no loss of parking spaces. Each phase is expected to take roughly seven weeks.
