Northbrook Might Get International Sister City

For the first time in 50 years, Northbrook could be forming international bonds with another community.

The Village of Northbrook might extend an olive branch to an international city sometime in the future, as village officials are mulling over an idea that Northbrook resident Safa Hamed recently proposed — for the North Shore community to become sister cities with another town overseas, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Judy Hughes, president of the Northbrook Historical Society, told the Chicago Tribune that Northbrook used to be sister cities with Diegem, Belgium in the 1960s when the Culligan company had officers in both cities. That relationship didn't last after Culligan moved its Northbrook operation to Rosemont.
