Removing Northbrook's Heritage Trees Will Cost You

Northbrook officials have amended a village ordinance to give residents the option of removing heritage trees for a fee.

Northbrook officials have amended the village's Tree Protection and Preservation Ordinance, giving residents the option to remove heritage trees from their property with village approval and a $250 per a diameter inch fee, the Chicago Tribune reports.

"There was no mechanism for removal of heritage trees before," Village Trustee Todd Heller told the Chicago Tribune. "Now we can give residents that option."

Officials recently approved the removal of a 150-year-old tree on Wendy Drive, marking the first heritage tree removal since 2006.
