Resident Blasts Northbrook Board For Lack of Gun Action

During Tuesday's village board meeting, Northbrook's Lee Goodman accused the village president and trustees of doing "nothing to make us safer from gun violence."

On Tuesday night, Northbrook's Lee Goodman stood before the village board during the regular trustee meeting and accused president Sandy Frum and the other trustees of doing nothing to protect residents from gun violence.

"Three months ago this room was filled with people who wanted to talk to you about reducing the possibility of gun violence in our village and before anyone could say a word our village president wanted everyone to know this village board intended to do nothing to make us safer from gun violence," Goodman said. "The answer we were given by our village president was that she was going to let someone else do it."

The village board did not respond to Goodman during the meeting, but Frum told Patch she remains "convinced that gun control must be dealt with at the state and federal levels.”

Goodman said in the last three months 7,000 Americans have been shot to death and at least 700 of those were children, though he did not say where those statistics came from.

"Could it be that you think your children, your citizens aren't worth protecting when other villages do?" Goodman added. "Could it be that you're too busy on things like National Garden Week and food trucks and bringing new stores into town?"

Goodman said he was inspired to appear before the board after learning about last week's brief lockdown at Meadowbrook School when a few students reported a suspicious person in the area.

Do you think Northbrook's board of trustees should be more active in addressing the village's firearm policy or is the village safe already?
