Schakowsky Named to Leadership of Top House Democratic Committee

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi appointed Schakowsky as vice chair of the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee.

U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky was appointed Tuesday as vice chair of the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee, a key group within the party, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The committee suggests which Democrats should serve on different committees and also makes policy recommendations to leaders within the party, the Tribune reports.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi also appointed Alabama Rep. Terri Sewell as chief deputy whip and California Rep. Judy Chu as a member of the committee, according to Politico.

"
Congresswomen Schakowsky, Sewell, and Chu each represent the best of our Democratic Caucus — its diversity, its commitment, and its dedication to a strong, thriving, and growing middle class,” Pelosi said in a statement printed by Politico. “These leaders bring strong values and a clear vision to our Steering and Policy Committee, and their insights and ideas will prove essential in advancing an agenda of fairness for women, good jobs for our workers, opportunity for families, and responsible deficit reduction for America’s future.”
