Should Northbrook Allow Medical Marijuana Dispensaries?

The question will be taken up by the Plan Commission later this month.

Northbrook’s Plan Commission will discuss whether the village needs to draft zoning laws to limit where medical marijuana dispensaries could set up shop in the community, according to an article in TribLocal. The commission will take up the issue at its May 20 meeting.

Neighboring Deerfield has taken up the issue after local pharmacists expressed interest in opening a dispensary in town. The issue sparked a heated debate on both sides of the question.

At a previous meeting, the Northbrook commission learned about the new state law that will allow for 60 dispensaries statewide. The commission discussed whether dispensaries should be allowed in industrial areas, where retail business has generally not been allowed, the article said.
