Board of Education Appoints New Principal At Shabonee School

District 27's current instructional technology, John Panozzo, will take over for outgoing Principal Laurie Heinz.

District 27’s board of education appointed current Instructional Technology Coordinator John Panozzo as principal of at a meeting Thursday night.   

“I deeply appreciate the opportunity to continue the next chapter of my career in the same district that helped me grow professionally as an educational leader and continue the long-standing tradition of excellence that exemplifies ,” Panozzo said in a press release. 

Panozzo served as instructional technology coordinator for five years, during which time he helped implement new technologies and integrate them into existing curriculum. Previously, Panozzo taught fifth grade at Shabonee School and before that was a fourth-grade teacher outside the district. He has a master’s degree in technology education and a master’s in technology administration.

“We are happy we can keep you on as a leader at Shabonee,” Board of Education President Jennifer Warner told Panozzo at Thursday night’s board meeting. She also described him as a “respected and admired part of our staff.”

Panozzo will take over July 1 for current Shabonee School Principal Laurie Heinz, who has accepted a position as assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction in Skokie Elementary District 68.
