District 225 Expects Decrease In Reserve Funds

Glenbrook High School District 225 might have a hard time keeping their target reserve rate for the next few years, according to an assistant superintendent.

District 225 officials expect reserve funds to decline over the next five years as state funding decreases, staff salaries increase and staff members receive training for new Common Core Standards, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The school district's Assistant Superintendent Hillarie Siena told the Chicago Tribune an effective reserve protects schools from unpredictable financial climates, and despite concerns it could reach 18 percent of operating budget by 2018, the district still tries to keep the reserve at about 33 percent of operating budget.
