District 28 School Board Candidate Withdraws From Race

First-time candidate Anni Goldberg announced she will no longer run for election in April.

With parent volunteer Anni Goldberg dropping out of the race, elections for school board are no longer contested.

“I had to withdraw my name because I have to have my hip replaced,” said Goldberg. “The surgery is probably scheduled for April, right when the election is."

Along with PTO President Carol Currie, Goldberg was one of two newcomers running for one of three seats in District 28. Incumbents Bruce Ahlborn and Elizabeth Hall complete the ballot

Goldberg says that while she’s no longer running for election this time, she hopes to run the next time elections come around, in 2013.

“I have a first grader, and a seventh-grader, and one in between,” she said. “I have a long future with District 28.”

Goldberg currently volunteers as a room parent and helps organize the book fair. She says she’ll continue to remain active in the school community over the next few years.

“I can be just as helpful in two years, including the vast amount of volunteer work,” she said. “I’m not going anywhere.”

Goldberg’s withdrawal leaves only one of Northbrook’s five contested. In , where four seats are open on the board, current members James Bream, Yasmeen Bilimoria and Scott Margolin will run for re-election against challengers Chuck Gitles and John Smith.
