Glenbrook North Math Team Qualifies for State

Glenbrook North High School's math team recently earned third place in the ICTM Regional Math Contest.

 

Glenbrook North High School’s math team will be heading to the state finals for the 33rd year in a row after placing third in the ICTM Regional Math Contest on February 23, according to the school’s website. 

Sophomores Joshua Khazanov and Samuel Korsky had the best score in the entire state in their Freshman/Sophomore two-person event. Korsky also earned the second highest score individually on the individual Geometry event, missing only one question.

Korsky also anchored the Freshman/Sophomore eight-person event, which took second place. His team members included sophomores Scott Mutchnik, Yasmine Ramachandra and Ethan Handler, and freshmen Leo Mayer, Sean Kelly, Paul Graham and Isaac Kim.

Junior Jacob Levin took second place individually in the Algebra 2 written event, leading the Glenbrook North team of juniors Alina Moroz, Ross Steinberg, Derek Choi, Matthew Kabelitz and Jacob Kahn to a third place regional finish.

Senior Michael Freidin earned a third place finish in the individual pre-calculus event.

Other team members who will travel downstate in early May include freshman Leela Pakanati, sophomores Aaron Charous and Aaron Kreiner, junior Gail Mar and seniors Matthew Karlin, Brian O'Keefe, Eric Veith, Harrison Marick, Robert Krebs and Samuel Aber.

The team is coached by Steve Goodman with assistants Brad Benson, John Krickl, Mark Lewis, and Dan Workman.
