Chicago Magazine named the best among suburban Cook County's top 20 high schools, based on factors such as average student-family income level, graduation rate and school spending per pupil.
The magazine praised the school's schedule which encourages deeper study and critical thinking. GBN classes meet every other day for 90 minutes.
"There’s a freedom to pursue their own education," GBN principal Paul Pryma told the magazine.
Northbrook's was ranked fifth best in Cook County suburbs, immediately followed by . is magazine's ninth best.
The magazine developed its own algorithm to rank the schools and used data from the 2010-2011 school year, the most recent available, for their rankings.
