Longtime Hickory Point Principal Will Retire

When current Hickory Point Principal Cory Hehn retires in 2012, she will be replaced by current Shabonee School assistant to the principal Sheila Streets.

Longtime Principal Cory Hehn will retire in June 2012, after serving nearly three decades on staff at District 27.

During her long tenure with the district, Hehn spent 16 years as principal of Hickory Point and previously was a special education teacher and director of special education programs. As principal, she oversaw Hickory Point’s transition from a standard elementary school to a primary center, with just kindergarteners through second graders, as part of the district’s 2010 reconfiguration.

“Ms. Hehn has been a phenomenal leader in District 27, always putting the children first in her decisions,” Superintendent David Kroeze said in a press release. “The district is fortunate to have Ms. Hehn for one more year.”

Replacing Hehn is Sheila Streets, who has worked for the district since 1996 and most recently served as assistant to the principal at . Hehn will  mentor Streets for the coming school year while Hehn serves as assistant to the principal at Hickory Point. In the fall of 2012, Streets will take over as principal.

“Ms. Streets has been an outstanding teacher in District 27 for many years and has demonstrated her abilities to lead effectively,” Kroeze said. “We are confident Ms. Streets will continue the tradition of excellence that our community has grown to expect.”
